Systems Engineer
Our Client is seeking a Systems Engineer for a 12 month contract in Raleigh, NC. The Systems Engineer will provide assistance with Technology Advisory Services with technical requirements/definitions for fine tuning and development of RFP for a product rollout.
Expectations/Responsibilities will include:
Systems Engineer ensure proper technical requirements are included in the RFP to ensure that system is scalable to support the fully-anticipated user base in NC
Work with the various IIS vendor(s) to develop system integration designs for interfacing and integrating the various components of the IIS vendor products
Systems Engineer will evaluate the technical configurations in the vendor responses to the RFP and assess for reasonableness to support the NC user base. Evaluate the configuration design for efficiency and scalability
Ensure that vendor solution complies with ITS Architectural and Engineering standards and DPI standards
Act as liaison with ITS to provision application, database, and web Servers
Act as a liaison with ITS DBAs and server support staff to ensure that OS patches are implemented timely and DB routine maintenance is done on schedule
Oversee vendor installation and configuration of software products
Ensure that proper SDLC best practices are followed during the system installation process
Evaluate vendor solution to ensure security complies with applicable FERPA and HIPAA laws and sufficiently supports the defined roles
Work with IIS vendor, DPI Enterprise Architect, DPI acting CTO, and ITS to author/negotiate Service Level Agreement (SLA) between DPI and IIS vendor
Act as liaison between vendor and ITS to help troubleshoot processing and performance problems
Act as a backup to the Database Developer to facilitate the interfaces between the IIS and up to 30 feeder source systems through the MFTS and any other Middleware solutions
Act as a backup to the SLI Systems Engineer to assist with data integration services between DPI (or LEAs) to the national Shared Learning Infrastructure (SLI)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
Required
Minimum of (8) eight years of experience working with Information Technology projects in the roll of systems analyst, programmer, architect
Minimum of (3) three years of experience as a systems engineer
Four (4) year college degree majoring in computer science, engineering, or another technical field
Demonstrated experience architecting large-scale highly complex, highly available computer systems
Demonstrated experience documenting logical and physical application deployment designs
Strong systems integration skills with experience using XML and Web Services running on Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) platforms
Experience troubleshooting system and network performance issues
Experience with TCP/IP protocols, analyzing network traffic patterns, and running enterprise applications over wide area networks
Experience with Oracle DBMS versions 10g and later with solid SQL query skills
Superior oral and written communication skills and negotiation skills
Full understanding of systems development life cycle (SDLC)
Microsoft Suite experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with expert-level experience with MS Visio or other drawing software for creating logical and physical system designs
Preferred
Experience working in K-12 Education
Experience configuring and implementing Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) software products
Database design skills
Experience with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE)
