DESCRIPTION
The Medical Assistant will assist with the fitness for duty program and medical surveillance, and provide office support.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain list from Security.
  • Schedule employees/contractors for testing.
  • Collection of drug screens for program.
  • Administer breathalyzer test.
  • Maintain proper chain of custody forms.
  • Scheduling of courier for pick-up.
  • Coordinate scheduling of exams for medical surveillance and hearing conservation program.
  • Conduct testing for the following: vision, spirometry, Veripuncture (drawing of blood), vital signs, urine dipstick, electrocardiogram.
  • Transport lab specimens to hospital.
  • Maintain daily log book of employee visits.
  • Complete employee worksheet for day entry into database.
  • Conduct audiograms of employees in Conservation Program (approximately 200 employees) in addition to exit audiograms and baseline audiograms.
  • Perform otoscopic exam.
  • Calibration of audiometer (booth).
  • Complete audiogram questionnaire and enter information into audiometer.
  • Perform audiogram exam.
  • Provide base results to employee and provide counseling on hearing protection to include handouts.
  • Transcribe taped results and send to Medical Services.
  • Schedule medical appointments.
  • Answer telephones, schedule appointments, type reports and correspondence.
  • Order office supplies.
  • Provide guidance to employees (ie medical programs and information, etc.).
  • Assist in scheduling of volunteers for blood drive.
  • Attend monthly health and safety meetings.
  • Assist with Wellness Programs to include: health fair, blood pressure checks, cholesterol clinic.
  • Research and write newsletters regarding medical issues for internal publications.
Qualifications
  • BCAB (SASS Basic Competency Assessment).
  • Must be a graduate of a medical assistant program or equivalent education.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment to include: phones, copier, fax machine, printer, typewriter.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer and LAN, Windows, Word, E-Mail, Multisys.
  • Certified in drug collection,
  • Knowledge of NRC drug testing regulations.
  • Intoxilizer training.
  • Working knowledge of medical equipment to include: EKG machine, Titmus Vision Tester, Spirometer, Audiometer/Booth, stethoscope, otoscope, blood pressure meter.
  • Knowledge of first aid equipment: oxygen machine.
  • CPR certified.
  • Ability to draw blood.
  • Urinalysis, spirometry, and electrocardiogram certified.
  • First aid trained.
  • Certified hearing conservation for audiograms.
  • Knowledge of regulations for audiograms.
  • Communication skills.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to keep confidential information.
