Experis is looking for a motivated Senior Windows/Linux Systems Engineer for a position in New York City.
Our client is a major online health and lifestyle knowledge base and their ideal candidate will be someone who shares their passion for technology and innovation. This position will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining complex systems that service the search and ad delivery platforms for our clients online domains.
The engineer will also be responsible for supporting daily operations including monitoring, deployments, troubleshooting, and planning. Emphasis will be on supporting the client's Search application platform. The candidate must possess great communication and documentation skills and be able to work in crisis situations.
The individual must be a self-starter with the ability to handle a number of simultaneous projects, demonstrate a sense of urgency and ownership to drive projects to completion, and be successful in a collaborative environment. The candidate must be organized; detail oriented and be able to prioritize tasks. He/She must ensure that applications run reliably by employing monitoring tools and performance tuning techniques.
At least seven years of disciplined application and server support in the Internet or financial industry is required. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to define and deliver high visibility projects in a timely manner. He or She will have experience automating build deployments and manual processes. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively (written & verbal) are also critical success factors in this role.
In addition, desirable candidate will also have:
- BS or equivalent experience in Computer Science or other technical field
- 7 - 10 years experience in the Internet industry supporting web-based applications and large scale and high-traffic websites
- Extensive experience managing RedHat Linux
- Extensive experience managing and supporting Apache and Tomcat Servers
- Experience managing Windows Servers
- Experience managing IIS and .NET based applications
- Extensive experience with Scripting and automation tools including authoring of scripts via Bash, Python or Perl
- Solid understanding of monitoring methodologies and tools (Zenoss, Nagios, or home grown systems)
- Solid understanding of fundamental technologies such as DNS, TCP/IP, Load Balancing, and NAS
- Experience supporting and deploying Internet search technologies (Endeca, Lucene, Solr)
