A new exciting opportunity has arisen to work with a Leading Oil and Gas Major on a 1 year contract position based in Thornton, Cheshire. This role is to work within the ecotoxicology team part of the (Environmental & Product Health, department),

EPH identifies environmental and health hazards, assesses environmental and health risks, and provides functional leadership on the management of those risks as they relate to my clients products and operations. Ecotoxicologists study the toxic effects and risks posed by chemicals and operations to ecosystems. The ecotoxicology team is comprised of subject matter experts (including the Global Discipline Lead) in the fields of ecotoxicology, environmental risk assessment, and environmental chemistry located in the USA and Europe. The team works on all aspects of global business including Exploration and Production, Chemicals, Manufacturing, Supply & Distribution and Lubricants. Individual team contributors identify potential adverse effects of exposure to chemicals, wastes, and effluents on different ecologically relevant species in laboratory tests or field studies and integrate ecotoxicology data for individual chemicals, wastes, and effluents with predicted or observed environmental-exposures to assess environmental risks.

We are looking for an enthusiastic graduate from a recent related B.Sc, M.Sc or Ph.D. degree with less than 2 years practical experience is fit-for-purpose to my clients. The individual should be interested in regulatory compliance and problem solving task assignments. My clients offer a challenging work environment with interaction at all levels of our business and external engagement.

Responsibilities of the Position

  • Develop fate/exposure, effects and hazard assessments needed to complete Chemical Safety Reports to Register products
  • Develop responses to requests for ecotoxicology information from regulatory authorities to evaluate registration dossiers for products
  • Provide subject-matter expertise to meet post 2010 and 2013 submissions REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) requirements for products
  • Contribute ecotoxicology expertise to secure authorized specific uses of selected products
  • Participate in and represent in discussions with external stakeholders on ecotoxicology-related issues, especially as they relate to REACH, TSCA, Global Harmonized Systems (GHS)
  • Provide expert ecotoxicology advice/services on chemicals and products and Manufacturing as required for top-quartile performance
  • Represent, where appropriate, my client on a limited number of industrial association technical panels

Complexity:

The Candidate must possess awareness/knowledge of ecotoxicology principles, fate/exposure modelling, and ecological risk-assessment techniques as related to chemicals and chemical streams with the ability to conduct a hazard evaluation. Candidate must be able to design, conduct, write, and submit ecotoxicological risk assessments to meet regulatory requirements (eg, REACH) for a limited group of products.The incumbent is expected to be able to conduct statistical assessments and interpret ecotoxicological data. Familiarity with publically available QSAR models to predict fate/effects behaviour of chemicals. Expert ecotoxicology advice is critical to operating safely, bringing new products to market, and product stewardship during manufacture, use, and disposal. The complexity of the position is determined by the interaction between the environment and my clients operations and products and the regulatory impact on present and future business.

  • Ability to use standard tools and deep subject matter expertise to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions
  • Ability to coordinate additional ecotox/contract resource to ensure project delivery.
    Use subject-matter expertise, expert knowledge of relevant environmental regulations to advise about ecotoxicological hazards and risks. Liaise with other ecotoxicologists or product stewards to assess risk management strategies. Translate ecotox theory into fit-for purpose solutions to site-specific issues.
