Description
Large financial services company with a location in Austin, TX is seeking a Technical Writer for a key project. This Technical Writer will leverage company documentation, as well as the project specifications, to create user and application admin guides for a new project. Will verify procedures and take needed screen shots using development and/or QA instances. Will create source documents in unstructured FrameMaker using the existing template and distribute as PDF and MS Word files.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Produce user guides for customers' staff and application administrators for our software product offering.
EDUCATION BA or BS degree or equivalent; ideally, has some college-level work in Technical Communications and Computer Science.
EXPERIENCE
- Must have at least 5 years of professional technical writing experience in the computer software industry
- Experience working in or writing for the mortgage industry domain strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to understand the needs of different user groups and to develop information that is easy to use, understand, and find.
- Quick study who feels at ease learning new user interfaces with minimal training.
- Understands Agile Scrum development methodology, but doesn't expect a ''pure'' Scrum framework; ideally, has been part of an Agile Scrum team.
- Proficiency in unstructured Adobe FrameMaker 10; must be able to create multi-chapter books, index, TOC, and cross-references using our template.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word 2007 or greater; knows how to use styles, create cross-references and index entries, work with the TOC, and use review features.
- Must provide own system and software. Contractor's environment must be able to handle documentation source files in Microsoft Word 2007 and Adobe FrameMaker 10 format; we use PNG format for graphic files.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This Technical Writer will be the sole Technical Writer on this project, but will be supervised by the Senior Technical Writer in another corporate location in the U.S.
- There are 10 total developers on this project (2 teams, with 5 members each). Development, QA, and Business Analysis team members are located in both Austin and another corporate location in the U.S.
