Description

Manufacturing Engineer with SC Clearance is required for a contract role based in Gloucestershire. This is a minimum 12 month contract with a rate of up to £200 per day. You will introduce and continually improve manufacturing plant, tooling, equipment, layout, processes, and procedures through the use of best practice techniques, including the latest lean and quality tools. You will also manage new product introduction and engineering change through the use of DFM and DFT techniques, ensuring all data is accurate and up to date.

Main Duties of this Position

  • Review all current manufacturing processes to drive towards a make to order rapid response culture.
  • Use Lean manufacturing principles to continually improve productivity and reduce lead-times for all current and future products.
  • Liaise with QA so that quality data (RFT, rejects and rework) is captured, analysed, and reported, ensuring that defects dealt with promptly and root cause analysis is carried out.
  • Establish effective manufacturing KPI's to enable accurate measurements of productivity, customer service (lead time & OTIF), cost reduction and product quality improvement.
  • Work closely with Engineering on New Product Introduction (NPI) from concept, ensuring Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), and Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) are imbedded within the product development cycle to give maximum quality and efficiency at lowest cost.
  • Liaise with support departments (Engineering, Design, Quality, Procurement, Production Planning and Test) to plan NPI, ensuring agreed deliverables are achieved.
  • Supervise the production of engineering prototypes and pre-production models.
  • Assess Make v Buy against Quality, Delivery, and Cost parameters.
  • Identify opportunities and provide pay-back justification for new plant, equipment and tooling.
  • Constantly review facility, plant and workplace layout to optimise production and space.
  • Ensure all manufacturing plant, equipment and tooling are stored appropriately, calibrated, and maintained.
  • Manage and control all manufacturing documentation, programmes, data, files and reports so they are created and maintained in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain a clean working environment conforming to Health & Safety and ESD requirements.
  • Provide technical support to staff as required.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by management.

Essential:

  • ONC/OND in Mechanical, Electronic or Production Engineering
  • Relevant experience in a similar electro-mechanical manufacturing environment
  • Experienced practitioner of Lean manufacturing including VSM, 5S, 7 Wastes, Line
  • Balancing, Standardised Work, and SMED.
  • Highly computer literacy
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

Desirable:

  • Six Sigma qualified
  • Siemens SMT experience
  • ATE experience
  • Defence industry experience
  • Project management experience
  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Manufacturing or a related subject
