Strategy and Planning Manager required with an Insurance background

Overview

The Commercial and Broker division has recently defined a clear view of a 3 - 5 year growth strategy across each of its component businesses.

For example, the Commercial strategy is based around four key elements:

1 - Delivering core service standards
2 - Making our client the easiest Commercial insurer to business with
3 - Delivering growth through customer focused solutions
4 - Maximising our opportunity in the 'S' space of SME and building our platform into the 'M'

Each of these strands is made up of a number of significant projects.

All of this requires not only excellence in their day to day trading operations but an ongoing focus on defining, refining and executing a range of strategic transformation projects across the business. At the same time they need to significantly enhance their market intelligence, market analysis and planning capabilities to ensure that we remain sufficiently strategically enough to exploit rapid market changes.

All of this requires a small central team of high calibre individuals able to support the business in both strategy formulation and planning.

Purpose of the role - how it adds value:

* Solutions Development
o Support the Commercial & Broker strategy to deliver growth through a range of packaged solutions by:
Scanning the Commercial Insurance environment to identify opportunities for Commercial & Broker to grow by fulfilling customer needs
Designing powerful solutions to address our customers' needs for the ability to effortlessly transact with Commercial & Broker across channels and products
Effectively executing and bringing solutions to market at pace
Creating a feedback loop with our customers to ensure that solutions remain relevant and compelling

* Strategy and Planning
o Provide the Exec team with analytical support for strategic decisions, through the provision of options and recommendations and potential solutions to key issues and changes faced by the business
o Design, plan and oversee the implementation of strategic initiatives
o Consult with stakeholders across the Commercial & Broker and the wider Insurance division to win support for recommendations and decisions taken
o Provide a challenge function to the Commercial & Broker business units, including undertaking full strategic reviews of entire business units

* Broker proposition development (including product development)
o Support the Underwriting and Distribution communities in the creation of new propositions and ongoing refreshes of existing propositions for our brokers through:
Supporting product research, design and development
Designing and developing complimentary proposition features in addition to core product wording, ie 3rd party services, discounts, additional benefits

* Leadership and external positioning
o Participate fully at all senior C&B forums and constantly sponsor ongoing development of strategy
o Build (through recruitment, performance management) high performing team of market experts with top class execution skills
o Proactively attend industry events, engage external stakeholders and contribute to industry forums to ensure that company and C&B overall are both actively driving the development of industry standards and perceived as a subject matter expert

Key Responsibilities/Deliverables - criteria/results by which success can be measured:

* Within a 12-18 month timeframe, delivery of the following:

Solutions Development, including:

o "Start-up solution": Range of business partnership and support options (funding, compliance support, enhanced commission etc) to deliver the company strategy of identifying and supporting new and emerging broker businesses
o "Small book solution" for company: Define the opportunity and then build and roll out a solution for brokers with marginally profitable books of high volume, low premium/fee business. Likely to result in a series of transactions.
o "Specialism solution" approach for BIS and company: Define and build tailored consumer solutions for target brokers with access to market areas aligned with company specialisms

Strategy and Planning, including:

o Management of the strategy and change agenda
o Delivery of Exec level strategy presentations to support ongoing stakeholder management across the group
o Lead strategy input into budgeting and forecasting process to ensure strategy and planning integrated into forecasting
o Work with regional sales and underwriting teams to build detailed bottom up view of broker market, product penetration and opportunity etc

Broker proposition development, including:

o Development and delivery of broker club concept for target partner brokers
o Ongoing refreshes for our core specialist products including motor trade, agriculture and property owners
