POSITION PURPOSE

The Clinical Lead supports and manages a team of clinical analysts to assist in the planning, design, development and implementation of the clinical systems.  The Clinical Lead understands business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements and recommends solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals.

In addition to being accountable to direct line Management, the Clinical Lead will be accountable to and take direction from the EHR Alliance Senior Director.  The Clinical Lead will directly interface with IT s internal customers at the Manager and Director levels.

EHR POSITION PURPOSE

The POC Clinical Leader is accountable for activities classified within the broad categories of design, implementation, testing and validation, and training toward the deployment of their Electronic Health Record System.

This position leads the POC design and transformation teams.  The decisions and actions of these teams will insure that the applications and interfaces are designed and implemented based on valid standards and in accordance with sound clinical practice.

The Lead is responsible for assigning activities, oversees and when necessary, assists staff and team members in accomplishing the activities necessary to implement the module(s) applicable to the department (eg, deciding on module parameters, designing and completing dictionaries, analysing and refining departmental operating policies and procedures in light of automation, defining and assigning menus', planning for and conducting training and software testing). Identifies and assists in the resolution of issues that may arise within the department relating to the satisfactory operation of the module(s) both during and after installation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the team works as a liaison among stakeholders in order to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate requirements for changes to business processes, policies, and information systems.
  • Responsible for managing clinical analysts staff resource allocation to support projects.
  • Responsible for the management of clinical analyst staff including but not limited to scheduling, overseeing work assignments, follow up on completion, annual performance reviews.
  • Instills in the clinical analyst team ITs commitment to improve patient care and safety and to support the healthcare workers.
  • Interfaces directly with software and hardware vendors as necessary.
  • Helps prepare project and application documentation for software applications and all ancillary products as needed.
  • Ensures all software and systems are being utilized and meet overall department/organization goals.
  • Assists in preparing documentation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Interacts extensively with and builds strong relationships with vendors, hospital leadership and other IT leaders.
  • Develops, leads, and coaches direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing or other applicable clinical discipline.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of IT experience in a healthcare environment.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience.  Experience leading and managing teams of 25+.
  • Experience with various clinical systems such as; Meditech, Cerner, PACS (DR, Emageon, McKesson and GE), McKesson Surgery, and Sunquest Lab.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of various IT applications.
  • Excellent knowledge of healthcare-related software applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to manage up, down and across levels of the organization.
  • Ability to create, manage and enhance customer and vendor relationships.
  • Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail.
  • Ability to work in a complex and matrixed team environment; experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, schedule, and meet deadlines.
  • Skills in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Understands and employs fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures relating to systems analysis and design.
  • Strong understanding of process redesign including documentation of current state IT and Business processes. Ability to facilitate future state workshops with end users.
  • Knowledge of business operations and in-house business systems required.
  • Ability to understand IT projects and concepts as they relate to high-level business objectives, and ability to present those concepts to both IT and non-IT audiences in a concise and easily understandable manner.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Proven abilities in problem management, process analysis and root cause analysis.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) for information gathering and the ability to interact with various client groups.
  • Ability to work in a complex and matrixed team environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, schedule and meet deadlines.

TRAVEL REQUIRED

  • Significant travel will be required to IT Corporate Operations in Phoenix and various hospitals.  Travel may occupy as much as 60% to 80% of the time spent in this position.
