Position Summary: The SQL Server Database Administrator will be responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, designing, performance tuning and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server databases on Windows platforms. This person will also be responsible for critical business database applications and will work with the Director of IT Operations to set technical strategy, process and controls of database administration initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designing, implementing and monitoring database functionality to ensure stable environments.
  • Performing database administration and management activities in a safe, recoverable and professional manner that ensures the optimal operation of all database environments.
  • Develop physical database design and create databases focusing on a modular, flexible, scaled design which will meet current and future needs.
  • Upholding enterprise policy guidelines and recommending new and improved guidelines to ensure compatibility and better service for end-users.
  • Maintaining security according to best practices and generating security solutions that balance auditor requirements with user requirements.
  • Performing capacity monitoring and short and long-term capacity planning in collaboration with development resources, system administrators and system architects.
  • Perform ongoing monitoring and tuning of database instances as well as quality assurance reviews on database changes.
  • Staying abreast of the most current releases of the RDMBS software, including compatibility issues with operating systems, third party software and utilities.
  • Maintaining up-to-date plans for disaster recovery and fail over capabilities and test as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor s degree in information systems or related field with 3-5 years experience in Microsoft SQL Server database administration, backup/recovery, performance tuning, SQL development, data modelling, development, implementation and support of databases and data warehouses for global, large scale, transactional systems.
  • Experience with optimization and troubleshooting techniques to address performance problems on SQL Server.
  • Advanced expertise in stored procedure programming, SQL Scripting, data modelling, replication, performance monitoring/tuning, and database administration.
  • Strong background in data warehousing, ETL and distributed environment as well as knowledge of database backup and recovery methods and tools.
  • Must have the ability to learn and maintain knowledge of multiple application areas.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of data security and data integrity and data, metadata and control structures.
