The UNIX System Administrator is responsible for the proper functioning of all UNIX functions, including all utilities and tools required to maintain the production and test environments. This individual will make modification proposals and review all proposed modifications to the UNIX environments and leads the testing and implementation of all changes. The UNIX System Administrator provides senior technical support efforts involving issues related to the UNIX environments. This individual must be an expert in all aspects of managing complex UNIX environments and is expected to be able to function as a team lead and may have ongoing supervisory responsibilities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs and coordinates UNIX activities including system installs, patching to go with application and business needs
  • Recommends and takes action to resolve system issues and directs analysis and solution of problems
  • Works with other IT teams to provide UNIX assessment and point of view
  • Participates in assessments of applications and business needs and provides feedback for proper UNIX direction and involvement
  • Participates in network, storage, UNIX, and backup discussions for the business
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 8 years' experience in Information Technology field
  • At least four to six years in UNIX administration

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Solaris 8,9, 10: Unattended install, patching, advanced application installs and service troubleshooting (REQUIRED)
  • Red Hat 4,5, 6: Unattended install, patching, advanced application installs and service troubleshooting (REQUIRED)
  • Scripting: ksh, csh, bash, and/or PERL (REQUIRED)
  • HPUX 11i: Unattended Install, patching, advanced application installs and service troubleshooting
  • Oracle Enterprise Linux: Unattended install, patching, advanced application installs and service troubleshooting
  • EMC SAN/NAS storage (VMAX, NS480, Clariion): Ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and add disks/LUNs to assigned Servers using EMC storage
  • Network Appliance NAS storage: Ability to monitor, troubleshoot NetApp storage
  • Understanding of Networking, UNIX/Windows Servers, and SAN/NAS/SCSI storage
  • Performance analysis, capacity planning, troubleshooting
  • Advanced application troubleshooting
  • Ability to support UNIX software products

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in information technology preferred or a combination of equivalent education and work experience
  • Certifications in Solaris and Red Hat a plus
