Under the supervision of the Team Leader, the Engineer Network & Security is responsible for incident and problem management activities to the corporate network and network security services. In addition to that the Engineer will own projects within the same range of services covering scheduled HW replacements, service deployments, service standardization and pilots for new technologies in cooperation with IT architecture prior to official release. He/she is working in a team of highly engaged engineers and is expected to be proactive, communicative and contribute to the continuation of a high performance service delivery. For this particular position the focus is on tasks related to a LAN service deployment project where IP remediation has to be completed prior to/or in parallel to HW and design remediation.

1. Incident and Problem Management

  • Work on incidents arising in the area of network and network security services
  • Work on problems arising in the area of network and network security services. Analyse the problem and propose solutions for permanent fix.
  • Interface to and communicate with vendors providing network (WAN and LAN) services to Johnson Controls when needed.
  • Interface and communicate with internal customers for troubleshooting, proactive notification and incident/problem close out.
  • Involve other departments and resources in the incident/problem management process when ever needed
  • Applies escalation processes to next level management
  • Preparation of 8D reports on severe outages handled by him/her

2. Daily Management tasks

  • Contributes to the completion of reoccurring tasks within the network and network security services
  • Monitoring of the network environment using the existing suite of monitoring tools

3. Project work

  • Supports/contributes to the project scope definition
  • Communication to stake holders and other project resources involved
  • Communication with GI architecture and Connectivity platform
  • Completion of technical tasks within the scope of the project
  • Tracks the timely contribution of other resources defined as contributors
  • Triggers escalation to his/her manager when needed to manage his/her projects along the agreed timing
  • Reporting on project progress, findings and close out

4. Continuous service and process improvement

  • As part of the permanent service improvement he/she is requested to make suggestions for service and process improvement at any time an improvement opportunity is spotted
  • Process documentation and documentation review and update
  • Training to other IT divisions on technology and processes
  • Training to the end user service desk on network and network security related items

5. Regular reporting and contribution to the service reputation

  • Provide weekly reports on achievements and project progress
  • Contributes to the quarterly meetings and prepares material to the projects of his/her responsibility

Technical skills, Experience and Educational background

  • Successfully completed Information Technology based education, equivalent studies or equivalent by experience
  • At least 3 to 5 years relevant practical experience in information systems functions, with significant exposure to network technologies & security mainly CISCO based infrastructure
  • Technical configuration, implementation and problem analysis skills for, Cisco PIX/ASA Firewalls, WAN implementations and protocols (IP, BGP, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF), Routers (Cisco), Cisco Switching LAN infrastructure, communication topologies (Ethernet/Fast-Ethernet, Frame Relay, IP/MPLS, ISDN, Internet VPN) and blue coat technology.
  • Aligns and evaluates vendors providing innovative solutions that will make contributions to the efficiency and operational nature of Infrastructure maintained by GI.
  • Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP, hardware & HW management technologies, Scripting, backup strategies and imaging.
  • Exposure to network integration & acquisition projects

Profile

  • Organisational awareness (good business understanding) and good negotiating skills
  • Good documentation and presentation skills. Being comfortable in front of an audience is an advantage
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently manage time, demonstrate grace under pressure
  • Ability to work in teams consisting of people from different businesses, nationalities and cultures, at distributed locations.
  • Recognise the cultural and mentality differences in the various locations and departments, in particular in acquisitions, and demonstrates the ability to deal with it in a deferential and sensitive way, without loosing sight of the technical and project/service objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, towards both technical and non-technical staff
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in an open way, willingness to share knowledge and resources and to educate others.
  • Ability to use English as the working language, knowledge of any other language is an advantage.
