Project Description:
This position is responsible for maintenance and operation of network infrastructure equipment in the data center including troubleshooting, break/fix and implementation of new services. The Network Engineer must be skilled in the various areas within the environment. These areas include WAN, LAN, Matrix Switching, Disaster Recovery, ATM, Frame Relay and SNA. The incumbent will be required to work a shift schedule as defined by the Technical Lead and may be on-call after hours. The incumbent will maintain a close working relationship with the Operations Support Center and local Business Managers.

Job Description:

*Shift: Monday - Friday from 4pm to 1am*

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Network Engineer will partner with the customer Engineering and Architecture functions to support project initiatives across the environment. The incumbent will also support the SNA decommissioning initiatives and will work closely with other organizations to migrate network traffic to the new MPLS infrastructure.

The primary duties of this position are summarized as:

  • Respond to network faults within the data center and effect repair actions within SLA timelines.
  • Support the non-IP infrastructure including ATM switching, Telenex and SNA NCPs.
  • Maintain documentation for the assigned equipment and facilities.
  • Support the GCSC with fault and change management activities.
  • Provide on call support for the assigned infrastructure

Skill Requirements:
The incumbent must have 10+ years experience in operations management in network operations and premises services including, Hubs, Routers, FRADS, Multiplexors, Private Data Lines, Frame Relay, ISDN, ATM, PBX's and Servers.

The incumbent will possess the following skills:

  • Engineering, Design and Management
  • Network Operations in a non-IP environment
  • Excellent Customer Relationship Skills
  • WAN and LAN Data Systems
  • Excellent Verbal and Written Communications Skills
  • Understanding of various protocols including SNA and TCP/IP (60%)
  • Understanding of non-IP Technologies
    o Telenex Switching
    o Modems and CSU/DSU
    o ATM and Frame Relay
    o SONET DWDM
    o Token Ring

May be required to work other various Shifts.

SKILLS

Knowledge of ATM and Frame Relay, Knowledge of SNA and Token Ring, Telenex switching, Dial Modem technology, TCP/IP Networking, Microsoft Office applications, Verbal and written skills, Customer service skills
