About the role

You will be working on an application which provides the cient with

Briefing support;
External communications interfaces;
Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) support;
Hardware and software environment based on industry standards and widely accepted components;
Geographical displays for maintaining track data and creating/managing places, areas, and routes;
Graphic subsystem to support geographical and graphical displays;
Integrated message processing capability;
A security subsystem designed for current security policies while allowing connectivity with required external interfaces.

The system is based on a server/client architecture using HP UNIX Servers and a mixture of HP UNIX and WINDOWS clients.

Your duties will include

Perform the analysis, design, implementation and maintenance of authorised software changes, related applications software and the integration/tailoring of vendor supplied components, following established procedures for quality, configuration control, testing, documentation and security.
Provide expeditious support services (including technical help desk and emergency on-site assistance) to ensure key information systems remain operational.
Assist in the maintenance of the operational and support environments for the software of all assigned systems.
Perform analysis, detailed problem diagnosis/resolution, programming, testing, writing documentation and participating in reviews, walkthroughs and audits.
Participate in the definition, acquisition and implementation of new system engineering requirements.
Co-operate with appropriate authorities on QA and Configuration Control issues.
Monitor design, program and interface specifications during acquisition and operation phase and maintains user and system documentation during operational phase

Essential Skills:

Systems development - Programming/software development:
Experience in all Lifecycle aspects of Information Systems to achieve effective system development and deployment.
Proven capability of converting evolving operational requirements into Information Systems requirements.
Extensive knowledge of System Analysis principles to direct and guide Information Systems development.
At least 5 years demonstrable experience developing software using C & C++ as well as experience developing Unix Scripts.
Broad and sound technical knowledge and experience in distributed Information Systems as they are applied to the modern management information and Command and Control Information Systems to include:
- Experience in the design and implementation of WEB based applications.
- Experience with Administering UNIX Operating System Environments.
- Experience in designing and administering Relational Databases.
- Detailed knowledge of architectural design as applied to computer systems.
- Sound technical knowledge of wide area networks and local area networks.

Desirable Skills:

Recent experience with the design development or maintenance of systems built with the Service Oriented Architecture.
Experience with PostgreSQL DBMS
Experience with developing and debugging Java applications.
Experience with version control in a CM environment (Subversion) and/or Team Foundation Server/Explorer.
Experience of systems support and maintenance in the NATO environment.
Experience in GIS Systems technologies and protocols

The role will be based in Belgium but may require short periods of deployment in a location outside Europe. The initial contract will start in October and run until January 2013 with option of extensions thereafter. Candidates should have appropriate Security Clearance if applying for this role .
