Futures & Innovation Exploitation Lead - SC Cleared

We currently have a requirement for a Futures & Innovation Exploitation Lead to work on an exciting new contract for 18 months + with our leading client. The role is based in the Hampshire. Applicants are required to hold a current SC clearance or higher.

Task Summary

To develop a Plan to enhance the exploitation of all the F&I domain's programmes, with the focus for each programme as shown under the 'Task Background' section above. To agree this F&I Domain Exploitation Plan with the Domain Lead Futures and Innovation To Implement the F&I Domain Exploitation Plan To provide briefings on the F&I domain's outputs at internal and external meetings and events and ensure that F&I domain follows up on consequent exploitation opportunities that arise.
To provide a monthly report to the F&I Domain to explain specific details of where parties outside the domain are exploiting F&I work.

This will include details of:

  • How external organisations' plans are being shaped to exploit F&I outputs
  • The programmes and capabilities that are exploiting F&I work outside of our client
  • The benefits being realised for MOD through the increased exploitation of F&I work
  • Where external organisations which did not previously do so, are now prominently referencing the benefits provided by F&I domain
  • Upcoming prospects identified and the plans for how these will be capitalised
  • Attributable feedback from staff and from external organisations on the value that they are seeing from the work of the Exploitation Lead.


Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Current experience of leading innovation within the UK Defence Industry
    Able to demonstrate a track record of influencing industry to use and benefit from the research outputs from previously unrelated research groups. (This may, for example, have been gained through exploiting outputs from University Research Groups into capabilities in Industry, generating profitable new products and services).
  • Wide and current networks across Defence Industry, Technology Strategy Board Knowledge Transfer Networks, Capital Investment Organisations and Academia.
  • Some valuable experiences of failure' whereby, through pushing the boundaries to achieve valuable exploitation of research, the candidate will inevitably have had some cases where things have not worked and lessons have been learned.
  • A strong understanding of the UK Defence and Security Innovation Ecosystems and a compelling vision for how the Futures and Innovations programmes described above can be exploited further outside our client to benefit UK Defence
  • Understanding of relevant Intellectual Property arrangements and how these are currently applied with the UK
  • MOD research exploitation context.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Tenacity and the ability to make and pursue cold' contacts with new organisations
  • Strong System Thinking skills, in particular shaping and influencing ability.
  • A strong personal commitment to core our clients values of integrity, honesty and supporting the wider public good. The Exploitation lead needs to be a strong ambassador our client.
  • It is expected that the successful candidate will be qualified to degree level or equivalent. However meeting the requirements stated under 'skills and experience' above are more important than any specific formal qualifications.

  • Provide an ambitious, compelling and credible vision for enhancing the exploitation of the F&I domain programmes (as noted under 'task background' above). Candidate to explain how this vision will be achieved and how the benefits will be realised and measured.
  • Demonstrate a strong current track record of leading the exploitation of research outputs within the Defence and Security Industry. Candidate to provide evidence on the impact and value that this research exploitation is delivering.
  • Demonstrate relevant professional networks across government, defence and security industry and academia. Evidence to be provided by the candidate on how these networks are being exploited to enable research exploitation.
