Job description

My client, a prestigious financial institution in the Asset Management industry is looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead and manage projects. The role requires a knowledgeable individual to define and agree the IT strategy for Global Balanced Solutions, in conjunction with investments organisations and Head of IT for Equities, GBS, Compliance and OMS. This will require the definition, mobilisation and delivery of a programme of activities in line with business priorities, and to ensure continuity of support and timely resolution of operational issues with Global Balanced Solutions systems.

Responsibilities include the management, guidance and development of a multi-disciplinary team todevelop, implement and maintain in-house solutions and support a range of complex systems and processes. All projects and initiatives within the Balanced IT area follow the Agile project methodology. However, with the support of the central IT architecture and IT Methodology team, the project manager is responsible for ensuring that the project methodologies used and solutions developed are consistent with the firm wide IT architecture and methodology (CMMI 2).

Required Experience/Skills:

Professional experience

a) 5-10 years IT management experience in an asset management environment.
b) 5-10 years' experience in managing Agile development projects.
c) Has a background in Microsoft development (preferred).

Qualifications (university and professional)

a) Minimum degree level education, ideally a numerate discipline.
b) Scrum master, PMI-ACP (preferred).
c) Prince2 or CMMI background.

Investment Management

a) Detailed understanding of the investment process, including research, analysis, modelling, risk, performance, quant analysis and portfolio construction for the range of investment teams within the Global Balanced Solutions division.
b) In depth knowledge of the specialised requirements, processes and of the following businesses: asset allocation, UCITS, global balanced risk modelling, strategy application and portfolio construction techniques, absolute return products, fiduciary management.

Technology

a) Detailed knowledge Microsoft Visual Team Foundation System 2010. Knowledge of Microsoft C# and techniques, Middleware, database systems and infrastructure required to support a complex set of Front Office applications and services.
b) Planning in Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2010.

Programme Management

a) Strong project management experience in a software development and delivery environment.
b) In depth knowledge of Agile project methodology.
c) Manage a programme of IT projects, while delivering to agreed budget, time and quality objectives.
d) Establish a regular Steering Committee with all stakeholders to discuss progress and change requests of the programme.
e) Create realistic, balanced programme and project plans consisting of Release & Iteration planning.
f) Ensure that all potentially concerned parties are aware of the Projects objectives and needs; organize the reviews defined in the Project Life cycle (Functional and Technical reviews) and Project management method (Quality reviews).
g) Track the programme and project progress against the Project baseline by registering actual work and taking corrective actions as necessary.
h) Release management. Organising releases with Central IT departments.
i) Organise & also assist in providing BAU support for the business.
j) Support team members by addressing impediments. Eliminating impediments, & keeping external noise from diverting focus.
k) Enforcing the rules of the agile process.
l) Organise release retrospectives.
m) Central point of contact for communication with Central IT department.
n) Capable of managing multiple high priority issues simultaneously.

People Management

a) Effectively manage a multi-disciplinary team of business analysts, developers and testers.
b) Lead and coach members of the team to assist them in their achievement of their project and professional objectives.
c) Continuously assess and control the performance of the team.
d) Demonstrate multi-cultural capabilities in building effective relationships.
e) Experienced in recruitment, interviewing techniques and dealing with multiple recruitment agency providers.
