Job title: Solutions Architect

Location: Fareham

Duration: Six months [initially]

EXCLUSIVE OPPORTUNITY:
This assignment will be working with one of Steria's most prestigious Central Government Clients. You will work through Steria Recruitment for Steria, the UK's leading Outsourcing and Technology Company.

The objective of this project is to procure a new service to replace the existing Geographic Product Library and provide a portal by which products can be accessed via the Intranet by other government departments and customer organisations, with appropriate maintenance and support throughout the duration of the contract.

The main focus for this Solutions Architect role will need to be providing support for all the procurement activities from development and evaluation of responses to an ITT, through to award of contract to a provider, for the development and delivery and implementation of a GRI Product portal service.

WORK PLAN:
Leads development of systems architectures for complex systems or an entire corporate suite of systems.
Takes full responsibility for ensuring that systems architectures balance functional, service quality and systems management requirements as indicated by the business requirement.
Establishes policy for the selection of systems architecture components, and takes responsibility for the strategy and methods used in implementing a systems architecture in a significant organisation.
Co-ordinates design activity between the systems architecture, application development and service delivery functions and promotes the discipline to ensure consistency.
Maintains a detailed knowledge of current practice and an awareness of current developments within own area(s) of expertise. Keeps up to date on relevant emerging technologies
Produces detailed component specifications from systems architectures, taking into consideration the intended uses of the architectures as a whole.
Takes a leading and visible role in the development and promotion of the technical specialism.
Takes responsibility for the provision of quality assurance of activities involving the technical specialisms, which are carried out by others.

Optional:
Develops new techniques for use in systems architecture.
Promotes the systems architecture discipline within the wider ICT community.
Takes an active role in the development of other staff

Optional: Manages or coordinate's the systems architecture function within an organisation

ESSENTIAL/DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

Knowledge and experience of using Geographic web based solutions (eg ESRI)
Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
Able to negotiate with business and IT project managers, communicate effectively with all levels and negotiate with third party suppliers.
Considerable experience in software analysis and design, including OOAD
Experience in using one or more Enterprise Architecture frameworks (eg Zachman, TOGAF)
Strong leadership skills, and a confident and inclusive style of team working that recognises, values and develops an individual's talents and skills.
Be proficient in at least 2 of the following (and familiar with at least 4)
- Enterprise integration technologies
- Enterprise applications (preferably Oracle E-business suite)
- Java and J2EE (preferably Oracle Application Server)
- Relational Databases (preferably Oracle)
- Unified Modelling Language (UML)
- SAS
- IBM Rational tools (for modelling, configuration management, change management, requirements management, testing and modelling)
Experience in reviewing and challenging multiple third party proposals to ensure they align with the Architecture Strategy and deliver joined up solutions
Be capable of leading and facilitating workshops
Be familiar in the following methods and processes (and proficient with at least 3)
- AGILE
- RUP
- DSDM
- Visual Architecting Process
- structured architecture review techniques (preferably ATAM)
Be prepared to travel to other sites, sometimes at short notice

Desirable

Educated to degree standard (or equivalent)
Be familiar with the structure and configuration of operating infrastructures (hardware, operating systems, networks) and their significance in defining an application architecture
Considerable experience in software development (ie coding) including some OO software development
