Role and activities

  • Provision of technical leadership to the hardware development team on one or more projects;
  • Responsible for ensuring the technical integrity of the project through requirements management, design analysis, trade studies and ensuring the development activities are aligned with best practice and internal processes;
  • Communicate significant issues in a timely and appropriate manner;
  • Provide technical advice to internal and external customers;
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers;
  • Support products through qualification and into production;
  • Review and generate technical documentation consistent with engineering policies and procedures;
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews;
  • Manage the burn-down of technical risk;
  • Prepare patents on new technologies and ensure diligent reconciliation of architecture and technology with existing intellectual property.

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum of 2.2 Bachelors degree in Electronic Engineering or a related subject or equivalent level of experience;
  • Demonstrable experience within an engineering leadership position;
  • A background in electronics design;
  • Technological proficiency, including the use of relevant engineering tools such as DOORS, MATHCAD, Visio, Dimensions);
  • Able to clearly formulate and communicate complex and abstract design concepts;
  • A self-starter, committed to deliver products on schedule under pressure;
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Experience across the product life cycle, including project planning, derivation of hardware requirements from product-level requirements, verification and validation;
  • The confidence, flexibility and risk management skills to develop new approaches and solutions.
  • Used to working within a recognised quality system;
  • Willing to travel internationally occasionally.

Desired characteristics

  • Experience of aircraft certification requirements for complex hardware (DO-254);
  • Experience of environmental testing of products to DO-160;
  • Experience of aircraft interfacing;
  • Technical proposal writing skills;
  • Thorough appreciation of safety and reliability concepts;
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing.
