Currently, we are in search of a Software Engineer on behalf of our client, located in Cary, NC.

The Defined Benefits actuarial pension benefit Software Engineer Developer is responsible for all design, development, unit testing, deployment, and documentation tasks required to implement clients onto the Defined Benefits actuarial pension benefit validation platform. This tool is primarily used to audit the calculations from the Defined Benefits Calc (Blaze Engine) and to perform otherwise non-automated calculations for client's customers

The Software Engineer Developer

  • Is expected to have experience with programming of benefit calculations or similar experience with complex benefit rules.
  • Should have the analytical, programming and defined benefit experience or similar experience skills to implement new requirements changes and address identified defects on existing client Defined Benefits actuarial pension benefit validation platform.
  • Is expected to have a solid understanding of the software development process including analysis, design, coding, system, user testing, and release management.
  • Will be responsible for multiple concurrent projects and may be requested to mentor less experienced developers or business area Pension Benefit Consultants.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Analyze and convert business requirements as appropriate into the development of the actuarial pension benefit validation platform.
  • Ensure that all design, and development solutions adhere to existing standards and methodologies.
  • Update technical system design specifications based on independent Plan Rule updates as required.
  • Complete development of the actuarial pension benefit validation platform that meets the scheduled release date provided for in the project plan (ie, design, develop, test, regression, certify and release).
  • Support and coordinate with project teams on all development goals and issues.
  • Work independently on development projects and escalate project issues as appropriate
  • Complete thorough unit and integration testing to ensure development is delivered on time and in conjunction with defined release management practices.
  • Review the testing strategy, testing Matrix, testing criteria and identify missing or additional test cases.
  • Participate in the self-certification of the Defined Benefits Actuarial pension benefit validation platform.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • The Software Engineer Developer will typically have a minimum of 3 years of development experience preferably in the defined benefits area or similar experience.
  • Experience with programming and unit testing of defined benefit calculations or similar experience.
  • Experience working both independently and as a team member coordinating tasks and working with business and systems counterparts to resolve issues in a fast paced environment.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of defined benefits actuarial concepts and calculation methods: actuarial factors, computation functions.
  • Proficient in VBA and Visual Basic.
  • Proficient in programming Excel based workbooks using complex formulas/macros.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access and SQL queries.
  • Strong time management skills with ability to balance workload based on priorities and handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of full Project Life Cycle and software development methodologies (ie, analysis, design, coding, system and user testing, problem resolution and planning).
  • Solid business analysis, problem solving and testing techniques.
  • Ability to thrive in a Matrix-managed environment across multiple locations and functions.
  • Experience creating and maintaining comprehensive yet concise technical documentation a plus.
