Purpose of the Position

To support the Hostelworld E-commerce platform. To architect and implement enhancements to key systems that underpins the Hostelworld business. You will be a key resource in ensuring that the E-commerce systems are capable of sustaining the growth and development of the business. Disciplines include: systems administration, database administration, systems architecture, systems implementation and project management

Main duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide systems administration for the Unix based E-commerce systems
  • Take ownership of issues to resolution demonstrating a positive/can-do approach
  • Liaising with external service providers as necessary
  • Designing, building and maintaining the next generation of the E-commerce systems

Essential Competencies:

  • Excellent analytical/problem solving ability in a complex E-commerce system
  • Flexible and adaptable in the approach to address customer and business needs
  • Desire to learn about cutting edge technologies and apply them to our systems
  • Ability to work under own initiative or as part of a team

Education & Experience

  • A minimum of 2.1 in a Computer Science related degree or related qualification
  • 7 plus years of IT experience
  • 5 plus years in a global E-commerce technical systems administration role
  • Experience with common virtualisation technologies
  • Experience in supporting 24x7 E-commerce systems
  • Experience with Open Source technologies

o Detailed Apache web server configuration/administration experience
o Detailed MySQL Database server administration experience
o Detailed Linux experience (Redhat, Centos, Scientific Linux etc)
o Detailed Networking experience
o PHP Hypertext pre-processor experience

Experience with designing/implementing enterprise monitoring solutions

Demonstrated experience in at least one of:

o PERL
o Shell Scripting
o PHP Hypertext pre-processor
o Ruby
o Python

Experience with ITIL/Lean Six Sigma a distinct advantage
