Description

Our client, a govenment agency based in London, require a UNIX Administrator to join their team. You MUST be either DV Cleared or be previously DV cleared. If you do not meet this requirement then you will not be considered.

Background:
The UNIX Technology Team builds and supports UNIX environments- managing hardware, installing UNIX operating systems, delivering changes, managing incidents and maintaining live services. We have a well-established IBM AIX/POWER estate but also have responsibility for an increasing portfolio of Intel servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Role:

The candidate will be required to install and administrator both standalone and virtualised instances of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Some of the work will be reactive support (responding to incidents and service requests) and some will be flexible maintenance (such as automating manual processes and improving resilience of the platform)- the balance between these activities will depend on the experience and aptitudes of the individual. Any experience of similar activities on AIX would also be valuable.

Essential skills:

-RHEL installation and administration
-Administration of users, file systems, backups, networking, software and hardware
-Shell commands and scripting (grep, sed, awk etc)
-Performance monitoring and management
-Problem determination and resolution in RHEL, networking, NFS and Samba

Desirable skills:

-VMware (ESX)
-SELinux
-Active Directory integration and PAM modules
-RHEL Integration with HP tools (notably Data protector and OpenView)
-AIX installation and administration
-HMC/ LPAR/ VIO administration
-HACMP

Desirable Qualifications:

-Red Hat Certified Technician
-Red Hat Certified Engineer
-Any IBM AIX/pSeries certifications
