Department: Digital and Print Media

Brooklyn Botanic Garden seeks a part-time web developer to work 20 hours/week in the Digital and Print Media department. As part of a small creative team, the web developer will assist the website manager in the development, enhancement, and maintenance of bbg.org and other online and digital projects.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design, program, and produce new and updated web templates
  • Manage API integration (Flickr, Google Maps, etc.)
  • Resolve technical issues through research, testing, and debugging
  • Manage integrated third-party shopping software and payment gateways
  • Manage upgrades of ExpressionEngine CMS and plugins

Secondary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop new features and functionality
  • Research, recommend, and implement new technologies (web and software)
  • Document existing or new features in BBG’s website knowledge base
  • Add, update, and remove content from BBG sites
  • Perform other related duties or special projects as requested

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 2 years of web development experience
  • Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Knowledge of cross-browser compatibility and programming for responsive sites
  • Experience with PHP, MySQL, and Content Management Systems
  • Excellent eye for clean layout and proficiency with design software (Adobe CS)
  • Creative thinking and strong problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Experience with ExpressionEngine
  • Experience with responsive design
  • Interest in and familiarity with web analytics, SEO, and user experience
  • Familiarity with the Linux command line
  • Familiarity with the Flickr, Facebook, and Twitter APIs
