Role: Senior Systems Engineer (Contract)Term: 3-6 Months
Role Description
You will play a key role in the IT Service Operations Team of a Local Authority that is at a crucial stage of a large scale core infrastructure change programme, including the move to a new head office building in early 2013.
As part of this team you will lead on a specific technical project, the scope of which includes
*Completing the VMware virtualisation of all remaining physical servers
*Developing and delivering a comprehensive patch management strategy, including policies, processes and actual hands-on patching
*Own and resolve any problems that arise from virtualisation and patching working closely with other senior systems engineers and third party suppliers
*Producing high quality system documentation as required
*Adhering to information security and vulnerability requirements
You will be methodical and accurate in your analysis and resolution of problems, whilst proactively working to prevent future problems.
This is a hands-on technical role that requires quite broad technical expertise, but will also involve high quality planning, implementation and documentation, in what can become a high pressured environment due to time scales and regulatory requirements in the area of information security.
Technical Experience and Skills
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Server platforms
Excellent knowledge of VM Ware ESX Server/VSphere platforms 3.5 - 5.x
Excellent knowledge of MS Windows and other application patching strategies and approaches
Solid understanding of server, application and network security
Solid understanding of SAN storage solutions
Solid understanding of Microsoft Active Directory, including Group Policy
Solid understanding of networking, including IP addressing, routing, DHCP and DNS
Demonstrates ability to resolve technical issues in a methodical, thought out, and efficient manner
Demonstrates a broad knowledge of IT technologies and developments
Strong and clear technical documentation ability
Good interpersonal skills are essential as well as having the ability to communicate at all levels
Solid experience of Exchange, SQL Server and SCCM would be advantageous.
