Description

Macquarie University's Centre for Language Technology (CLT) and Centre for Language Sciences (CLaS) invite applications for a Research Fellow position in Machine Learning and Computational Linguistics. The appointee will work on projects funded by Macquarie University and/or the Australian Research Council. She/he will use machine learning techniques and statistical models to construct computational models of human language processing (including incremental syntactic parsing and/or human language acquisition).

Duties include carrying out research and data analysis, developing and extending mathematical models of language acquisition and processing, model design and implementation, as well as interacting with our growing research team of computational linguists, machine learning specialists and neuroscientists at Macquarie University and elsewhere.PhD (or submitted PhD thesis) in machine learning, computational linguistics or equivalent experience, as well as publications in machine learning and/or computational linguistics. The candidate should have a strong theoretical understanding of machine learning models such as Maximum Entropy classifiers, Conditional Random Fields and related models, and L1, L2 and group Lasso regularisation, etc. The candidate should be able to develop and computationally implement such models independently, and should have a pragmatic attitude to system development, good software engineering skills, excellent communication skills, and be able to work as a member of a team.
