Background
The Naval Mission System project is responsible for the delivery of the Mission System for the next generation of UK aircraft carriers. The Mission System is made up of the individual systems that deliver approximately 70% of the platform requirements, including the platform's navigation capabilities, combat management, air traffic control, mission planning, desktop IT infrastructure, in-platform entertainment and communications, both external and internal.
These systems are being delivered to a number of sites in preparation for warehousing, platform installation, Setting to Work and integration.
Components of the individual systems need to be identified and aligned with the system design and maintenance requirements. It is essential that we know when parts are needed, when they will be supplied, who they will be supplied to and who is going to fit them.
Role Description
The MS Data Management Engineer role is suitable for someone with strong numerical and analytical abilities and/or software/database experience. The project MS is delivering some 60+ procurable systems, consisting of 30,000+ parts, to 8 destinations. Clarity and consistency of data is key to success. Working alongside the Engineering Architecture team and Logistics Team, the successful applicant will be required to develop a clear and accurate picture of component inventory, ensuring accuracy and consistency of data. This role requires an individual who can work within a systems integration environment, liaising closely with suppliers, contractors and the MoD in an alliance construct.
Principal Tasks and Responsibilities:
The MS Data Management Engineer will report to the MS Logistics Manager and be responsible, within a team, for capturing the who, what when & how of all MS deliveries
The MS Data Management Engineer would be expected to proactively develop further methods, tools and processes as necessary
The MS Data Management Engineer will need to collate data from several sources to present a cohesive picture
The MS Data Management Engineer will work with the MS Logistics Manager & yards to ensure Project MS achieve their delivery obligations to the shipyards
The MS Data Management Engineer will work with the MS Logistics Manager to ensure suitable tracking of equipment is undertaken at Shore sites.
Location
Depending on experience, this role could be based at Portsmouth, Bristol or Glasgow.
