Contract opportunity for one of the world's largest Aerospace & Defence companies for an FPGA Design and Development Engineer based in Farnborough to start ASAP (ideally Monday 25th February).

Successful candidates will develop state-of-the-art avionics products and systems for civil and military aircraft across the world.

This is a 4 week contract position with the potential for extension.

*The successful candidate will have current SC*

To carry out the design and verification of Programmable Logic Devices for civil & military aerospace applications, in the fields of display systems, power control and aircraft utilities management.

  • To design the architecture and VHDL for programmable logic/FPGA devices used in distributed computing product platforms & electronic modules.
  • Perform formal verification of programmable logic/FPGA designs.
  • To lead and coach junior engineers.
  • To diagnose and fix design problems in existing and new products.
  • To help prepare the technical content of new product proposals.
  • To prepare for and participate in design reviews.
  • To provide technical advice within the department and to customers.
  • To work according to company and industry standards and design processes (eg DO-254).
  • The design work is expected to cover primarily programmable logic design discipline, including FPGA's, and CPLD's.

Skills and Experience

  • Has conceived, designed, integrated and transferred to manufacture a number of electronic modules.
  • Programmable logic design and verification using VHDL
  • Experience of Mentor Graphics programmable logic tools (Precision, Modelsim)
  • Committed to deliver products on schedule under pressure.
  • Having the organisational skills to deliver to budget and schedule with minimal supervision.
  • Able to advise and coach in a constructive way.
  • The confidence, flexibility and risk management skills to develop new approaches and solutions.

Ideally with

  • A willingness to carry out military design is essential, as is UK security clearance.
  • The applicant should be able to work efficiently with other departments such as systems, software & manufacturing.
