Description
Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health conducts research and works on public health projects in nearly 90 countries around the globe. We would like to build a comprehensive map of our global activities on a Google Maps platform to replace the limited and outdated map on our website, Mailman Around the World. We are looking to build a more interactive map that is searchable in several ways, allows zoom-in and zoom-out at multiple levels, N-S-E-W navigation, and the usual Google-map functionality. We also need a user-friendly administrative panel to permit easy updating as our global programs and activities change. The new map must be compatible with Drupal 7.
This new map will either be created as a micro-site or it will live on our Prospective Student site (www.publichealth.columbia.edu/) , in which case it would be in keeping with the look and feel of that site.
Overall, the user experience should mirror that of a typical Google map, so that the experience is familiar and intuitive. This includes:
In addition, we have these specific requirements:
Database Feed
A database of information (most likely in an Excel document) will provide the information for this map. Some of the fields will include location, program name, faculty involved, photo, etc. The map system needs to be able to accommodate this database pull. We anticipate highlighting at least 100 programs/research projects. The most in any country should be approximately 10.
