Position description:

Sybase Database administrator to work with Sybase ASE's versions 12.5.3 to the latest 15.7 on AIX, Linux and Windows.

Successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Patching, upgrades and continual improvement of development and production environments; capacity planning; performance monitoring; maintenance of Shell Scripts and batch files
  • Provide specialised, escalated support and technical assistance and assist with the monitoring of issue resolution to ensure issues are resolved within a timely manner
  • Design backup and recovery procedures to ensure effective Disaster Recovery plans are developed, documented, tested and implemented
  • Expert in Sybase SQL language and optimization, costing techniques & debugging query performance
  • Server level performance & tuning using sysmon & MDA tables
  • Undertake problem determination and root cause analysis to ensure permanent corrective actions are implemented appropriately
  • Personal commitment and the ability to work independently and goal-oriented with a proven track record
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

Advantage for the candidate:

  • AIX & Linux System Administrator experience
  • Ctrl-M

Experience:

  • Three + years experience in Sybase Production Support & Database Project support.
  • Provide Sybase thought leadership
  • Advancing ability and knowledge in one or more relevant infrastructure domains
  • Understanding of core financial services applications and products desirable
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Education:

  • Tertiary qualifications in IT or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Relevant technical certifications, such as Sybase Certifications
