ABOUT TURING

Turing is a web and mobile applications development consultancy. We work primarily with startups, helping them design, build, launch and improve their products.

We are headquartered in Berkeley, CA, but we're a fully-distributed company, with people spread throughout the West Coast, as well as a few employees in other parts of the world.

ABOUT YOU

As a front-end developer at Turing you sit at the intersection of design and engineering. This means you:

  • Will work closely with our design team to implement user experiences with an impeccable attention to detail
  • Will work closely with our development team to build well-engineered frontend applications
  • Have excellent design taste and a passion for building great products
  • Think like an engineer and enjoy technical challenges

A typical stack for our projects includes:

  • Rails 3
  • HTML5 (often with haml)
  • CSS3 with SASS & Compass
  • Coffeescript
  • (Increasingly frequently) backbone.js

At minimum you:

  • Like the idea of working remotely, unless you happen to be based in the SF Bay Area, in which case you're welcome to work from our office here
  • Have worked on a couple large Rails projects
  • Know Javascript very, very well and like Coffeescript
  • Understand and use OOCSS principles
  • Are a fan of either SASS or Stylus (we've got less love for LESS)
  • Have worked on responsive design projects
  • Have a Github account registered at least a year ago (bonus points for open source contributions from this account)

Major bonus points for:

  • backbone.js or ember.js experience
  • cool data visualizations in d3.js
  • not minding working on some boring Wordpress or Expression Engine builds once in a while
  • naming your favorite beer

Note: we're looking for US-based applicants only at this time. We love working with people in further-flung timezones, but find that frontend development needs communication bandwidth which works best within 3 deviations from PST.
