Job Specification of Configuration Manager:
As part of developmental and operational teams, the Configuration Manager will be responsible to create and maintain configuration baselines (development, test, production, etc.) supporting developmental and operational systems. Uses Sub-Version CM tool to implement policies and procedures. Develops or modifies CM plans, policies, and procedures tailored to the complexity and scope of the developmental or operational system. Implements CM discipline for the entire life cycle of systems from initial requirements/capabilities baselines to system end-of-life. Performs change control and configuration audits.
- Manages maintains and develops the environment for hardware and software product build, staging, testing and integration;
- Works independently and defines and implements hardware and software configuration management processes and procedures including creating product build scripts and procedures, and integrating those scripts with the hardware and software build process;
- Ensures hardware and software version control processes, policies and procedures are followed on hardware and software development projects;
- Maintains the environment for hardware and software product build, staging, testing and integration;
- Applies concepts and defines and implements hardware and software configuration management processes and procedures; such as creating product build scripts and procedures, and integrating those scripts with the hardware and software build process;
- Develops hardware and software version control processes, policies and procedures and ensures that they are followed on hardware and software development projects;
- Works with automated tools and tracking mechanisms to assess software deployment packages against approved service inventories, track and monitor equipment inventories, and maintain the program level configuration management database (CMDB);
- Works with the Program Manager to develop configuration management plans, milestones, and schedules and suggests alternative revisions and assists in implementing new strategy as appropriate;
- Ensures version control integrity for software and non-software components by reviewing requirements, establishes an approach for resolving discrepancies to ensure requirements are met, and implements solutions as necessary to ensure that problems are resolved;
- Helps develop technical installation guidelines and other documentation of hardware and software standards to facilitate tracking;
- Provides support in managing and tracking Request for Change status;
- Documents and reports status of compliance with baselines that are established and approved by the appropriate control board;
Qualifications
- 4+ years experience in a related area, preferably past experience as a Configuration Manager
- BS/BA degree or an additional 2 years of relevant experience
- Ability to work with and communicate clearly with non-technical and technical managers and peers
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple task assignments
- ITIL Foundation Training
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Demonstrated team player attitude
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Math, Science, Information Technology or Business from an accredited college or university
