Description

Want to work with nonprofits, progressive organizations and make a difference in the world?

We are a small, established design studio with a team of three remote designers that works with medium to large national/global nonprofits looking for another long-term freelance web designer to help with ongoing projects. Ideally, this person would be able to put in a consistent 25-30 hours/week (or more) during US business hours (no moonlighters). You can be East Coast, West Coast or anywhere in between. Other tasks might be layouts for interior pages, web production, web banners, email newsletters and some print projects.

Other requirements:

  • An interest in nonprofits, progressive organizations and design for good causes
  • An understanding of web design best practices
  • Works with grids layouts and understands how to design for responsive layouts
  • Understands web typography (@font-face, Google fonts, etc)
  • Understands XHTML/CSS3/jQuery capabilities (from a design standpoint)
  • Is organized and knows how to prepare files for handoff to a developer
  • Understands and enjoys wireframing/prototyping (we use Balsamiq Mockups)
  • We use the Adobe CS suite, Basecamp, Dropbox, Skype and are a Mac based studio
  • Must be able to consistently meet tight deadlines
  • Bonus points if you can do some frontend coding but no bonus points if that's what you're better at
We're looking for someone who's stylistically versatile but leaning towards clean, modern designs, someone that can take competing elements on a page (calls to action, donate, email signups, time-sensitive campaigns) and be able to organize it in a hierarchal user-centric way, someone who understands the importance of content, is a good speller, has a sense of humor, works well with minimal direction but still follows specs carefully and also realizes that this is a run-on sentence. We're not looking for a developer, so if you're proficient in php or backend databases, please don't apply.

If you're still reading this and the position interests you, please send a brief email introduction telling us about yourself (professionally and personally), your hourly rate and a link to your portfolio. If you can find the typo in this job posting, you're hired!

Only designers based in the US will be considered. Serious inquires only. Depending on the number of applications we receive, we may only respond to candidates who are selected for interviews, but we thank all candidates for their interest in this position.
