Media and Communications Officer (Travel Choices) Marketing and Communications Officer

This post will be within the communications team and be responsible for managing marketing and communications for the Councils Local Sustainable Transport Funded (LSTF) Travel Choices project.

Travel Choices is a package of sustainable travel initiatives, it is expected that the post holder will use a variety of media to promote their benefits to local residents, businesses, stakeholders and wider audiences both locally, regionally and nationally. The post holder will work across the project to develop campaign topics, key messages and delivery channels, communicating across a variety of media including public web pages, social media, press releases, newsletters, poster and radio campaigns. Relevant Experience Previous experience in a media related role that has involved a high degree of autonomy and self-direction, working in a pressured, deadline-drive environment. A demonstrable understanding and experience of selecting the most appropriate medium for key messages.

Ability to recognise, influence and positively manage the communications and reputation consequences of sensitive issues. A proven ability to find positive solutions to complex problems. Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Attention to detail and ability to summarise complex information The ability to write clear copy that is relevant and appealing to the target audience The ability to present in formal, informal and public settings. Ability to operate to tight deadlines in highly pressured environments. Knowledge of PC software Word, Excel, PowerPoint


Understanding of how local government works and current issues. Knowledge of the various laws and codes relevant to public relations and the media, including those specific to local government. Understanding and awareness of good customer service principles and practice. Understanding of social media and how it can be used to achieve targeted communications
