SENIOR MOTOR DESIGN ENGINEER required by our automotive client for a long term contract in Surrey to support the development, testing and design for manufacture of its products. The position is "hands-on" and involves all aspects of development from specification, analysis, design, optimisation, prototype testing and model verification/refinement to production sign-off.

Duties and Responsibilities

*Detailing specifications from outline briefs.
*Producing outline designs and determining feasibility.
*Producing detailed models with the use of finite-element software and thermal/fluid modelling techniques.
*Optimisation of design and exploring specific design issues like mechanical assembly and maximisation of heat transfer.
*Evaluation of prototypes and the refining of all design models.
*Liaison with suppliers on specification/availability of materials and keeping abreast with latest technologies for electromagnetic/thermal design.
*Producing engineering reports and presentations to management.
*Providing technical support to other departments as and when required.
*Supporting DFMEA activities.
*Checking Engineering drawings to BS8888.

Required Experience

*Ideal candidate will have 5 years experience in the design of mechanical power transmission, engine systems, or electric motors preferably in an automotive environment.
*Experience of using 2D/3D analytical and finite element design software.
*Track record of CAD modelling and getting theoretical designs into production.
*Good theoretical and practical knowledge of electric motors & generators.

Education

Minimum BEng/BSc or above in a related technical discipline

Skills and Abilities

*Computer literate with some analytical skills
*Highly organised with the ability to stay focused.
*Excellent written and oral communication skills.
*Self-motivated with the ability to work under supervision in a team environment.

Preferred Experience

*Experience of working in an ISO9001 environment.
*Research & Development work.
*Solidworks 2012 drafting and modelling/good working knowledge of mechanical drawings including GD&T
*FEA and CFD Experience preferably using solidworks.
*Working in an ISO9001 environment.
*Working in an automotive quality environment.
