Description

An opportunity to join a fast-moving team with an ambitious start-up, building a blended learning service for teaching English. EnglishUp is part of the Digital Education, a division of Macmillan Science & Education.

As part of the Macmillan group we have the vision (and funding) to be a leader in online English language learning across the developing world. The initial product is aimed at Brazilians, but we plans to roll out to other countries as soon as the customer acquisition process is perfected.

This role is for a senior / lead Ruby on Rails developer to work alongside an existing product management and development team as part of an Agile process.

This is a 3 month full-time contract, based in Macmillan's office in King's Cross, with the opportunity to extend as the project expands.

The key requirements are:

• Strong development skills with web development and Ruby on Rails experience
• Ability to work collaboratively with our development centre in Romania
• Flexibility to work within an iterative, Agile, user-centric development process, which has already seen 3 major design pivots within 9 months

Ideally you will have:

• Experience in the education sector or in learning products
• Self-sufficiency and great organisational skills to prioritise
• Experience in working on large-scale projects and leading other groups of junior developers

Applicants must have an existing right to live and work in the United Kingdom.

Digital Education both invests in technology and creates original products to give students the tools they need in order to learn the skills they require in our fast-changing world. Their purpose is to transform the way people find, consume and teach educational content through a range of technologies, allowing students to learn the subjects they need to excel in their professional and personal lives.
