Term: 6 months +

Rate: Up to £30,000/annum

Location: Essex/Greater London

Mechanical Design Engineer

We currently have a requirement for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work on an exciting new 6 months + contract role with one of our leading Defence Technology clients. Candidates will require SC clearance or being willing and eligible to undergo the clearance prior to commencing the role. This role will be based in the Greater London area.

Job Scope

  • To provide mechanical development engineering function in accordance with the client quality processes and procedures.
  • To ensure that the mechanical/electro mechanical content of new products meet the desired requirements for the equipment business.
  • To support and enhance the mechanical aspects of existing products in accordance with equipment business requirements.
  • To produce drawings and documentation for projects required by the equipment business.
  • To assist in the calculation of cost/time-scales for various design projects.
  • To assist in the making and testing of prototype's for new equipment.
  • To embody drawing changes as required by the business.

Job Functions

  • Evolve innovative product design for the equipment business with strong emphasis on customer value tempered with commercial viability, whilst adhering to marine and health & safety standards.
  • Provide sets of documentation to enable equipment to be produced by either client internal departments or selected external contractors and expedite the embodiment of all document changes as required by the business.
  • Provide mechanical technical liaison with the client Supply Chain, Production Eng and sub-contractors.
  • Provide engineering input into the design change system.
  • Travel within the UK may be required, and is considered an occasional feature of this role. Requests could be made at short notice.
  • Other activities as defined from time to time by members of the senior management..

Key Relationships

  • Mechanical engineering support for associate design and production engineering teams.
  • Technical liaison within and outside client with customers, suppliers.
  • Support the configuration manager on change control issues.
  • Support and assist the head of mechanical engineering.

Requirements

  • Computer literacy.
  • Good knowledge and experience of AutoCard and 3D solid modelling (Inventor).
  • Experience in designing mechanical enclosures for manufacture.
  • Sound inter-personal communication skills.

  • Ability to liaise with all levels, both within and outside the company.
