Allied Health Media (AHM) is looking for a talented, wear-many-hats UX designer to drive user engagement for a collection of online websites & communities (Audiologists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists), and to create a template of best practices that will help us achieve optimal online user experiences.

As a leader in online education and career center services, AHM is comprised of passionate individuals dedicated to enhancing patient care by developing professionals’ skills and knowledge in the allied health professions. Our websites include: SpeechPathology.com, OccupationalTherapy.com, PhysicalTherapy.com, and AudiologyOnline.com.

Job Description:
The UI Designer / Frontend Developer position will play a key role in our ability to connect with users, gather user feedback, and improve the user experience/conversion of our websites by folding user input back into our design efforts. Through testing and experimentation, your goal will be to create and foster organic engagement with our user communities. You will recommend and implement design changes, content enhancements, and site layout including future community-building initiatives. You will work in a fast moving, agile environment where you will coordinate your efforts with graphic designers, marketing managers, developers and SEO experts. The position requires working virtually.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Recommend enhancements to web site content based on usage data and user feedback
  • Plan and run A/B tests to optimize user engagement
  • Plan and run usability testing on our front-end websites and community features
  • Work with designers and marketing experts to determine how to expose community features in our mobile and desktop applications
  • Propose and design new ideas for enhancing engagement and fostering a community spirit among members
  • Review user research and/or user testing data to design improvements needed to user interface
    Stay on top of community-building best practices and theory for eNewsletters
  • Communicate user experience research to fellow team members and executives
  • Participate, lead and program (HTML, CSS, etc) all phases of the development process for user interface projects – from idea conception, to wireframes and prototyping, to design and implementation
  • Evangelize for user experience within the company
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing, Editorial, Sales, and Technology teams to deliver hypothesis driven designs and coding to improve user interface
  • Create and program innovative solutions for new features and improvements that tie to business goals
  • Take a user-centered approach to design with deep understanding of information architecture, interaction and usability best practices


  • The Usability Developer will be held accountable and performance will be evaluated on your ability to:

    1. Maximize conversion rates for:
  • Membership purchases (CEU Total Access, Student Union, SimuCase)
  • Job listing purchases
  • Resume uploads/ Job applies
  • Invite friend results


  • 2. Enhance Corporate Partner value:
  • Increase job response rates
  • Increase resume postings
  • Increase partner content and advertising views, opens and click-thrus



  • Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Ability to design and implement beautiful user interfaces. Mastery of semantic HTML/CSS and Photoshop is a must.
  • An advanced understanding of user-centered design, usability, as well as aesthetic design principles.
  • Minimum 2 years of interface design experience or related degree
  • Proficient with javascript/jQuery
  • Well-rounded understanding of online marketing and web usability best practices
  • A strong portfolio, available for viewing, showing great sense of design, creativity, and good communication skills
  • Knowledge and use of PHP, SASS and Google Analytics a plus
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, enthusiastic, and truly passionate for user-centered design and user experience
  • Creativity with an eye towards detail and perfection of user experience
  • Professional, team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to solicit and incorporate diverse perspectives
  • Ability to switch easily between different projects, and flexibility to handle a rapidly changing environment while delivering high quality results
  • Ability to learn new technology quickly
