US-based Front-End Developer (remote subcontract)

Description

LightSky is looking to bring on board a senior Front-End Developer to assist in the development of their Drupal and PHP projects.

This is a remote subcontracting position with a commitment up to 30 hours/week. Please only apply if you have the availability. We meet every morning at 10:00 AM EST for scrum via Google Hangouts, so you must be able to attend these meetings. The meetings usually last 10-15 minutes at the most. You will also be required to be a resident of the United States and be willing to fill out a W9.

About the job

You’ll be a lead front end developer on projects large and small. Most projects will require a complete theming of a Drupal Site, some may require only minor modifications. We are a full service shop, so our work varies.

You’ll participate in meetings both with the client and with our development team to create a plan for theme development and user interface recommendations.

You’ll work with the client and project manager to quickly stomp-out bugs that are discovered and resolve issues found in the theming of a site.

You’ll be able to develop themes based on design files, and provide design recommendations as needed.

About your skills

You enjoy working in Drupal, and have experience using it to implement web applications of various types

You have a working knowledge Linux and are more than comfortable on the command line.

You have experience using the Git version control software, particularly in Drupal development, and are comfortable putting Drupal’s configuration into code using modules such as Features and StrongArm

You are able to think outside of the box to anticipate and solve problems before they get out of hand
You can talk to non-developers, and they can understand you

Your skills are ever developing, and you are interested in learning new techniques and ways of doing things

You are not at all intimidated by CSS, LESS, and SASS. Actually you intimidate them.

You understand PHP to a point where you are able to complete the necessary functions of a Front-End Developer. This is include such tasks as adding preprocessing variables, manipulating the template.php file and creating update hooks.

You understand the differences between fixed, elastic, and liquid layouts.

You can make a Drupal Theme look and feel however you want, despite the fact that some browsers don’t like to cooperate ( cough IE7/8).

You understand Javascript/JQuery and are able to work with it within the Drupal environment.

Bonus qualities

You have experience and are comfortable in developing in, and modifying websites and web applications built on the Drupal Content Management System.

You are comfortable working within custom built PHP applications.

You demonstrate a familiarity with Agile methodologies

You have worked in Acquia Cloud hosted sites.
