  • Experience building responsive and/or adaptive sites
  • Knowledge of Javascript and frameworks (jQuery and Prototype)

  • Ability to create code that is clean and easy to follow and maintain
  • Applicants must be an individual, not a company / agency

THE JOB

This job listing is for an initial trial project.  If this project goes well, then the job will expand into more hours and on a longer-term basis.

The trial project will be to mobile-enable an existing WordPress website.  The website uses a fairly complex 980px-wide custom theme.  This theme will need to be customized further using adaptive design techniques (using CSS media queries) so the site matches the designs for the mobile theme when viewed on a mobile device.  PSDs exist for the mobile layouts, and will be shared at a later time.

Future projects currently in the queue include building a custom module for Magento recurring orders, building a custom MailChimp unsubscribe plugin for WordPress, building a custom WordPress theme for a non-profit textbook maker, and many more.

HOW TO APPLY

Selecting a provider for this position will be a three-step process.
1) Respond to this posting.  Please include your resume, required hourly rate, portfolio examples for WordPress and Magento sites, as well as a brief statement on your development philosophy.
2) For the selected applicants, we will have a short telephone interview where we will discuss your background.  We will also brief you on the details of this trial project, so that you can provide me with a project estimate - time and duration - as well as your approach for doing so.
3) For the final applicant selected, we will send all relevant project materials and ask you to complete that project.

Please note, this job is for an independent contractor; if you are selected, you will need to agree to and sign an independent contractor agreement, and submit a W-9 once $600 in billable hours are reached.

Our hope is that this will turn into a long-term, collaborative development relationship.

Oh, and by the way, our company website is offline because we started a redesign but have been too busy with projects to finish it!
