This is a Database and Java development role, where you'll be working in a team delivering components to support the clients core Exchange platform services.To be a successful candidate you will be passionate about technology, have demonstrable technical and problem solving skills and a positive, results driven attitude. You will have the aptitude and willingness to learn quickly and work with a wide range of technologies, including those unfamiliar to you.
The client is looking for an experienced Oracle database developer with exposure to, and a keen interest in, Java. The team's primary function is to develop, maintain and support software and services for the betting exchange. Their current architectural drive is to move away from Oracle PL/SQL as a critical component as they transition to a Java / SOA structure. Initially the role will be to support and enhance the existing PL/SQL code base but also to assist and drive through the transition to their target architecture. They are looking for someone willing and able to make this journey with the software.

Key responsibilities and duties
- Advanced SQL and PL/SQL Development in a world class Oracle database environment
- Creation of high performance SQL and PL/SQL and in-depth tuning of both
- Contribute towards physical database design
- Innovative technical design and creation of technical specification
- Creation of technical documentation that shares knowledge effectively
- Engineer feature and performance improvements, adhering to and feeding back into company standards and guidelines
- Review product requirements to give development estimates and product feedback
- Work closely with QA engineers as part of an Agile software delivery team to jointly deliver quality software
- Implementing Oracle and Java software to an agreed design
- Testing Oracle / Java software to ensure a high degree of quality (unit, component and integration tests)
- Providing advice and troubleshooting assistance to internal customers

Key Skills and Attributes:
- Significant experience as a SQL and PL/SQL Developer
- Significant experience of Oracle 11g
- Experience of database performance analysis and design
- Experience of tuning tools and techniques
- Experience within high volume transaction and / or financial services industries (e.g banks, stock exchanges)
- Experience of development involving distributed databases
- Good experience of Java technologies, enthusiastic to learn further.
- Proactive work ethic with the ability to deliver results and meet challenging deadlines
- Good communication skills (written, oral, presentations) with the ability to work as part of a delivery team
- A strong sense of best practice development techniques
- A capacity to review and be reviewed constructively

- Experience of replication technologies - Oracle Streams & Replication, Shareplex, Golden Gate
