Job Summary
  • Contribute to systems engineering and product design for broadband solutions.
  • Work with partners, software developers, and customers to develop state of the art software solutions for Broadband service providers.
  • Your responsibilities will include low-level network design; capacity planning, RF design analysis and recommendation, as well as serving as an escalation point for significant network events.
  • You will have demonstrated skills in the design and operation of large-scale enterprise Wi-Fi networks, including a history with HFC Plant, EAP, WPA2 Enterprise, RADIUS, DHCP, Wi-Fi controllers and Ethernet/IP Networking skills to plumb it all together.
  • Your skills will also be called on by the network test teams who will ask you to review their test plans prior to release.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Planning and commissioning of new Wi-Fi network equipment across Hybrid Fiber Coax Network.
  • Managing network capacity in co-operation with the capacity planning through placement, multi-radio and RF control
  • Act as an externally facing point of contact to facilitate handling of problem reports and maintain relations with network peers and vendors
  • Act as an internally facing point of contact to escalate technical issues and communicate network status
  • Write and maintain functional specifications for new product features and work with software developers to understand and implement to specifications.
  • Specify functional technical requirements for a product module.
  • Define and analyze use cases and engineering requirements for new product releases.
  • Design, set up, and execute laboratory and field tests to validate algorithms or to assist in development of algorithms and product features.
  • Participate in and contribute to project teams.
  • Execute programs for interoperability with operator networks, devices, and systems.
  • Work with software developers to create and test prototypes of new product functionality for proof-of-concept and demonstration purposes.
  • Work with Software Quality Assurance Engineers on test planning, including design of tests that exercise algorithms requiring complex network configurations and custom data sets.
  • Support the configuration and operation of lab infrastructure and test and measurement tools.
  • Support customer operations group as an escalation point of contact when complex problems arise.
  • Troubleshoot and identify complicated software issues discovered in deployments and during trials where knowledge of network performance and protocols, data quality, and software architecture are all required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Will be expected to travel to other projects across the country.
SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:
  • BA or BS in EE/CS or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years' experience with a Cable MSO, Internet Service Provider or enterprise-level network in an engineering or design role.
  • Experience with or coursework in operating, designing, or developing hardware and/or software for data and telecommunications networks such as cable broadband, Wi-Fi, and/or for video distribution systems.
  • Operational experience with enterprise class Routers and Switches.
  • Network routing protocol troubleshooting skills in OSPF, TCP/IP, IPv4, PIv6, DHCP, RADIUS, and SNMP protocols.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, & Outlook
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Be able to document requirements, designs and project status.
  • Effective time management, from own time to the project schedule and deliverables level. Working knowledge of project scheduling and tracking.
  • Ability to evaluate technology alternatives and make strategic technical decisions.
  • Conceptual knowledge of two or more of the following technology areas:
    - Broadcast analog and digital video system architectures
    - Cable industry specifications, standards and technology including DOCSIS and/or PacketCable
    - Data and telecom expertise including RF, layer 2, and IP internetworking, particularly expertise in TCP/IP protocol suite and Ethernet/802.3, Wi-Fi 802.11
  • Network management and operation support systems protocols and standards, including Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Internet Protocol Data Records (IPDR), Abstract Syntax
  • Notation One (ASN.1), Wi-Fi certifications such as CWNA, CWDP and CWNE
  • Knowledge of various Wi-Fi Controller solutions
  • ATOLL, AirMagnet, Ruckus WiSE, iBwave Certifications
  • Normal office and laboratory environments
  • Incumbent may need to wear safety equipment.
  • Able to travel to other locations as necessary.
