Description
The RoleReporting to the Vice President, Engineering, the Gear Drive Systems Specialist will be responsible for working with Mechanical Engineering staff to develop Planetary gear reduction systems for Electric motors. In addition the Gear Drive Systems Specialist will be responsible for aiding in the selection of Special Design Software, and sub-contractors for gear fabrication as well as providing guidance in the manufacturing of the Gear Drives for in-house assembly or contracting the assembly to an outside contractor.
Must have experience in fast-paced, diverse, high-technology hardware manufacturing environments, with expertise in the latest strategies, processes, and systems for production operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide Gear Box Expertise design direction to CAD engineers
- Lead Gear Box Analysis work for sizing and lubrication of Gear Boxes
- Provide Expert Opinion to identify qualified Gear Manufacturers and Gear Specifications
- Provide Expert Opinion to identify Assembly processes or Identify assembly sub-contractors
- Provide Expert direction to develop Gear Box testing and qualification processes.
Requirements
- BS/MS/PHD in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering with emphasis on Machine Design/Automotive
- 5 years in design and development of Gear Boxes/Transmissions
- Experience with assembly/repairs of automobiles/complex Gear Boxes and Transmissions
- Experience with Design of Gear Boxes for Bus applications, with electric drives a plus.
- Experience with Design of Gear Boxes for Engine/Motor Generators.
- Familiar with assembly/Test and Qualification techniques for Gear Boxes
- Strong analytic problem solving skills
- Experience with contemporary Gearbox/Transmission design Software
- Crisis management skills and creativity to resolve complex business and operational issues.
