Our prestigiuous client are experienced with a range of separate businesses in the engineering and scientific market sectors. With a successful history in the Electric Utility and rail industries, the company have been responsible for a range of innovative and widely adopted solutions across global markets.

This particular role will be in the Rail sector and our client designs, manufactures and supplies a range of innovative products to the rail industry. The company has many elements combining industry-leading R&D, state-of-the-art test facilities, in-house manufacturing and quality control, dedicated customer technical support and sales. Our regular customer base includes Network Rail, Carillion, Atkins, SSL and Siemens Rail.

Our client now comprises of a number of international companies made up of a combination of engineering design, production, technical support.

Field Service Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer for the UK based in the Midlands or towards the South of England. This position assumes a key role by being the front line assisting our customers at every stage including start-up and commissioning of equipment, performing planned maintenance, monitoring performance, diagnosing system problems remotely, as well as responding to emergencies on a 24/7 basis. The role will involve working on Network Rail infrastructure during re-signalling schemes to install and commission automated power systems operating at 400V and 650V. The desired person must be willing to travel, be able to work under pressure and have a strong work ethic. Due to the nature of railway anti-social hours i.e. night time working will be expected as and when required.

JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION

Role Responsibilities:

Responsible for meeting daily service repair needs and driving customer satisfaction
Installation and commissioning of Signet projects
Documents all inspections, maintenance, service work, and submits paperwork in a timely basis.
Orders, installs, and returns parts and manages repair parts cycle time.
Reviews all logs for open issues and prepares formal reports to customers as necessary.
Ensures that tools and test equipment are properly maintained and calibrated
Assesses product/equipment performance based on field support data; recommends modifications or improvements.
Seeks to provide technical support to customers and other service professionals as required.
May participate in site surveys and site meetings
Maintains clear and concise business communication proficiency, both oral and written
Travel within the UK , overtime and work hours other than Monday-Friday may be required.
(must have ability to travel subject to Business requirements
Comply with and ensure compliance with Company health, safety and environmental policies.
Other duties as required.
Summary: This individual must be able to demonstrate strong electronic and electrical knowledge and maintain high technical level of product knowledge. They must be team oriented and flexible, and actively seek to share information and assist his or her peers.

JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Requirements:
Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related HNC/HND
Minimum of 2 years previous experience in providing engineering field services or prior experience within an electrical utility or rail industry, electrical and mechanical systems including low voltage switchgear.
Must possess a strong safety mindset to assure the work completed reflects the technical requirements within industry safety standards
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience directly involved in troubleshooting and field repair of electrical and electronic systems and equipment
Must have strong customer service skills and have the ability to interact confidently with customers and be able to provide training on equipment and products.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Good computer skills including Microsoft Outlook / Excel / Word
Clean driving license
Willingness to work additional hours and the flexibility to work overtime as and when required.
Our client can only offer contracts of employment to applicants who have passed a medical and drugs and alcohol examination. This is standard procedure for working on the UK rail network.

Desired criteria:

Technical skills and knowledge of LV switchgear and automated power systems
Prior experience of installing and testing protective relays
2-3 years of experience of working on power systems below 1000V
BSTH Edition certification
Network Rail PTS certified
Good project management skills and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Good interpersonal and leadership skills
