Systems Engineer

Description

Wildbit is looking for someone to join our operations team for running all three products: Postmark, Beanstalk, and dploy.io. We run a fully managed environment of purchased hardware hosted in one of the most advanced data centers in the midwest (with ServerCentral). Our infrastructure is made up of a variety of server configurations, including all SSD storage, 10GbE networking and large ZFS servers for storing many TB's of Beanstalk repositories. We use a combination of tools for monitoring such as Zenoss, New Relic, statsd, pingdom and in-house custom tools built on selenium and jenkins.

You'll work with the developers and operations team to build new servers, automate our process, and monitor performance and uptime. Our stack includes Ruby / Rails, Clojure and .Net. We use a variety of systems to run our products, including RabbitMQ, Redis, Cloudant, Elastic Search, and MySQL. Most of our servers run CentOS and OmniOS.

Responsibilities

Maintain and improve existing infrastructure to meet demands of each service

Improve automation tools and processes (Chef)

Coordinate maintenance or updates between developer needs and operations

Coordinate with data center on new servers or networking changes

Emergency incident response and diagnosis of system outages or alerts

Write and update internal documentation of systems and processes

Skills & Requirements

5+ years in an operations role

Worked on large scale web applications

Ability to define physical server specs (but not building them)

Experience with operating system internals, file systems, and server architectures

Strong focus on open source stack

Experience managing MySQL with DRBD

Familiar with automation tools

Nice to have:

OmniOS, Illumos, or Solaris experience

Experience with ZFS

Understanding of SMTP and Postfix
