Senior JavaScript Developer

Description

We have a three to four month contract opening for an experienced client-side JavaScript developer familiar with SASS, HTML5 and all things DOM to work on a number of projects for the BBC. You will be expected to work remotely, under guidance as well as your own initiative, and to meet current standards of engineering excellence with respect to automated testing, code quality and documentation.

We can offer you flexible working hours, rich documentation, integration, test and staging environments, continuous integration and testing tools, agile management tools (JIRA) and extensive knowledge and support in developing the implementation.

For the right person, the contract has the opportunity to be extended for additional projects we have on the horizon and could potentially lead to a permanent position.

Required skilss:

Extensive knowledge and experience in hand-coding HTML, JavaScript and CSS

Experience with CSS preprocessors and client-side template systems

Experience with AMD libraries such as require.js

Good understanding of JavaScript and testing libraries (e.g. jQuery, Backbone.js, Underscore.js, QUnit, Jasmine), but an ability to write plain JavaScript to implement common patterns

Experience with continuous integration and distributed source control

Bonus points for:

Experience in server side technologies and understanding of the HTTP protocol
TDD / BDD

Experience with build tools such as Grunt

Experience with headless browser testing such as with phantomjs

Cucumber / Capybara / Poltergeist
