UI/UX Designer (freelance)

Description

We are a NYC-based startup developing a fun and useful social web application for college students. We are currently seeking a freelance or contract UI/UX designer to assist us in the final push to release.

About the Project
We have an advanced-stage prototype with a clean, streamlined design and are adding new functionality at a rapid pace. You would be helping to integrate newly created features into the existing UI.

The application is a medium-to-large dynamic website driven by user-generated content. It has a strong backbone of social features (user profiles, status updates, photo sharing, etc.), and includes discussion space, reviews, and e-commerce elements.

Our main focus is getting to launch, which involves completing development of planned functionality. But if you are interested in redesigning existing UI components, we would be happy to discuss a larger project with you.

We like to think that we are fun and easy to work with, and we enjoy creating useful, user-centered web products. If that description appeals to you, we would love to make you part of the team.

Qualifications

You have a portfolio of UI/UX design work demonstrating your abilities.

You can produce polished mockups in Photoshop, Sketch, or the design tool of your choice.

The ability to implement your designs in HTML/CSS is a plus, but not required. At minimum, you have a solid understanding of the limitations of HTML/CSS.

You like creating clean, engaging, easy-to-use UIs that put the user’s needs first.

You like making things look nice — to the extent that nice-looking things help usability.

You want to work with a startup and have strong collaboration skills — you will be working closely with a developer to create a new product!

If you are local to NYC, terrific, but not required.

This is a 2-3 month freelance/contract position with a possibility for longer-term work. Weekly commitment is flexible; estimated 5-10 hours per week for an experienced UI/UX designer.
