Our client, a leading manufacturer of complex Electronics products for the Defence & Aerospace industry is currently looking for a contract Project Manager.
CANDIDATES MUST BE AVAILABLE TO START WITHIN A WEEKS NOTICE AND HAVE A BACKGROUND WITHIN AEROSPACE OR DEFENCE - NOT COMMERCIAL IT OR SIMILAR PLEASE
The Project Manager will have responsibility for elements of a large Defence contract and portfolio of smaller development and manufacturing projects within the business. The Project Manager will be responsible for the coordination of a number of subcontracting organisations; experience of outsourced manufacture is preferred. The Project manager must have a combination of skills including an ability to ask penetrating questions, detect unstated assumptions and resolve conflicts, as well as more general management skills.
A clear understanding of risk and issue management through impact and resolution analysis is key, coupled with an astute understanding of good Microsoft Project and resource planning. The Project Manager must be able maintain and communicate a 'big picture' view of general and complex projects and ensure the deployment of resources from purchasing, kitting and manufacturing as per committed schedule.
Primary Responsibilities
Developing and maintaining detailed projects in line with customer required deliverables, from bid/contract award to development through manufacturing to despatch.
Ensure that deliverables are met by organising project requirements through the factory, as well as often working to short time scales and coping with changes to priorities.
Managing project deliverables in line with the project plan as well as monitoring project progress and performance
Identifying potential short comings of any project and mitigate where necessary - this includes the instigation of kit/purchasing as well as despatch checks, etc.
Recording and managing project issues and escalating where necessary
Communicating closely with stakeholders to ensure the project meets business needs
Managing project scope and change control and escalating issues where necessary
To proactively support jobs progressing through the manufacturing process to ensure deliverables are met.
Personal Specification
Essential
Accredited APMP member or PRINCE2 Practitioner, minimum HNC educated in an Engineering discipline
Minimum of three years demonstrable experience delivering complex projects with budgets of >1M in a Matrix environment.
Excellent communicator both written and oral.
Must have some technical background or understanding.
A highly motivated and robust professional willing to go the extra mile.
A logical individual with excellent problem solving abilities.
Desirable
MoR Practitioner, Agile
Demonstrable experience of risk and issue management.
Adept scheduler with a demonstrable track record.
Keen process innovator with the ability to offer best practice solution at a Project level.
Due to the nature of the work candidates will need to obtain UK SC Level Security Clearance.
