Responsibilities:
  • Creation of multiple design concepts to solve complex problems; clearly present concepts (prototypes, diagrams, etc.) in design reviews; devise methods and tests to validate the design; and generate reports to communicate test results
  • Detail part design, assembly layout and prototyping and validation of the design and fabrication method
  • Documentation, DFM and interface with vendors and suppliers to fabricate parts and establish production manufacturing of the disposable cartridge
  • Take products through engineering analyses and design validation testing
  • Interact and collaborate effectively with cross-functional groups both internal and external (e.g. HW, SW, ID, Bio, Reliability, Mfg, Mktg)

Requirements:
  • Proficient in 3D CAD Solid modeling (Solidworks preferred)
  • Expertise in microfluidic design and fluid handling
  • Knowledgeable in fabrication methods for high volume disposable products (injection molding, stamping, die-cutting, heat sealing, etc.)
  • Familiarity with materials properties and testing methods for compatibility
  • Knowledge of statistical tolerance analysis and GD&T
  • Experience with DFM and design transfer from R&D to Manufacturing
  • Written and verbal communication skills; Must be able to write clear technical descriptions and documentation for specifications, part drawings, assembly instructions, management presentations and design reviews, test procedures and results
  • Familiarity with analysis tools such as thermal and structural FEA and CFD
  • 6+ years professional experience
  • BS or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements for medical devices (e.g. FDA, ISO, CE)
