WEB DESIGNER OUR DEPARTMENT AND YOUR POSITION About Us…
We are the Department of Web Communications at Colorado State University. We create and maintain a large network of websites in support of the university’s many and varied strategic communications initiatives. Our goal is simple: cultivate a world class web presence to reflect, complement, and support our institution’s commitment to world class education and research.
About You…
You are a skilled WordPress theme designer possessing a complementary set of creative and technical skills, with a proven track record of delivering custom, hand-coded websites to solve a variety of information design and communications challenges. You enjoy well-documented code, lots of white space, standards-based design and development, and a laboratory for conducting your latest code experiments. You like when code doesn’t work, because it’s fun to find out why, and make it bend to your will. You also enjoy collaborating with a diverse group of clients and team members on a daily basis in pursuit of shared objectives and goals.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The individual will be part of an experienced team of web professionals who specialize in the areas of application development, information design and architecture, graphic design, and content strategy and creation.Specific responsibilities include:

  • Design websites and web assets from a defined set of brand guidelines and graphic standards
  • Code websites using HTML/CSS/JavaScript and in accordance with accessibility requirements
  • Develop WordPress themes from static mockups and HTML
  • Update existing websites using content management systems (both legacy and modern systems)
  • Interface with clients to present design concepts
  • Coordinate with developers to address a project’s programming requirements
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate degree or continued progress toward bachelor degree from/at a regionally accredited institution;
  • Demonstrable experience coding HTML/CSS and using WordPress;
  • Minimum 1 year documented experience designing and building websites.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor degree or higher;
  • 2 years documented experience designing and building websites;
  • Experience creating WordPress themes from scratch using PHP;
  • Working knowledge of best practices in the areas of usability and user experience;
  • Familiarity with responsive web design (RWD) concepts, and associated frameworks (e.g. Bootstrap);
  • Project documentation, management and scheduling;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
CLASSIFICATION, COMPENSATION, AND BENEFITS This is an appointment to a temporary 9-month full-time position without benefits. The salary range is $35,000-$50,000 depending on qualifications and demonstrable experience.
