Electrical Discipline Engineer - Peterborough

Huxley Engineering and one of the UK's leading names in Water Division are looking to recruit Electrical Discipline Engineer on permanent basis to join their office in Peterborough. This is due to succession planning to meet demand on projects and business growth in.

The role will include, but not be limited to:
  • Comply fully with the construction design and management (CDM) regulations and all other relevant H&S legislation
  • Work with the technical delivery manager (TDM) and the CDM coordinator to ensure that the highest standard of safety is built into the design for the benefit of both construction and operation
  • Be responsible for the production of technical deliverables required in the common delivery process in the electrical (including ICA) discipline - Work as a team with the TDM and other discipline engineers to deliver the technical aspects of projects
  • Communicate and work effectively with the wider team, including the enabling, construction, commissioning and operational staff - Work to the common delivery process; be responsible for all the actions/deliverables allocated to the discipline engineer in the RACI/stage quality plan - Ensure that all technical work is undertaken to the correct standards and specifications
  • Ensure that the requirements of minimum asset standards (MAS) are understood and adhered to
  • Work with the relevant discipline head (DH) and/or the programme area design manager (PADM) to ensure that all technical deliverables are properly checked and approved
  • Continuously strive to improve ways of working and promote innovation and identify opportunities that may facilitate cost savings, carbon reductions or other efficiencies to the DH/PADM
  • Embrace the concept of challenge and work with TDMs to drive optimal engineering solutions at lowest whole life cost - Commit to the principles of production management and in particular, be accountable for producing deliverables within the allowed manhours and by the key dates
  • Contribute to achieving the sustainability targets, particularly by reducing the embodied and operational carbon of the technical solutions

For the successful Electrical Discipline Engineer (SEMD) to succeed you need to have:
  • Experienced electrical engineer with relevant electrical and ICA experience
  • Relevant water sector SEMD experience
  • Relevantly qualified to degree level (preferably Chartered or working towards Chartership)
  • Experienced in design at a "for construction" level of detail
  • Able to deliver detailed design schemes within set timescales
  • Excellent technical knowledge of your field, able to advise other disciplines regarding aspects of their design as it impacts electrical engineering issues
  • Able to demonstrate a broad experience in LV and HV distribution systems, Motor Control Centres / Control Panels, electrical installation, SCADA and telemetry systems
  • Able to write and deliver technical specifications, control philosophies and schedules
  • Able to demonstrate use of Amtech or similar software package for carrying out detailed cable calculations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and integrate into the existing electrical engineering team, and work alongside colleagues from other disciplines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Fully computer literate
  • Able to interact positively with senior and junior staff alike, as well as within the client environment
