Duties/Responsibilities:

The experienced Network Systems engineer will be responsible for design, development, and test of ATM network systems. 

The NERC ATM network comprises of a combination of Legacy and modern systems. Legacy systems include token-ring, Ethernet (ThickNet & ThinNet), FDDI, coaxial and serial systems. Modern systems include Ethernet (Cisco Switches & Routers on 100Mb and 1Gb networks) & Fibre. Currently there are approximately 800 network devices within the test and operational systems, with a further 300 Cisco Switches to be deployed shortly.

The position requires understanding and application of the Software Engineering principles and practices and a general knowledge of Systems Engineering, Test, Integration and Validation disciplines.

Duties may include:

  • General supervision in planning teams work and control of own work
  • Network design, optimising performance, resilience and security
  • Network configuration planning and implementation, coordinating formal code inspections and configuration release and archive
  • Network test using support rigs, including validation analysis and reports
  • Support of the network system, where requested, through installations, problem resolution and formal change
  • Assignment to other teams or projects as required

The Network Systems engineer will be required to communicate effectively at all times, written and verbal to a variety of work groups. The candidate will be expected to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and show a degree of flexibility in working hours when required to meet project milestones.
