The Chief Engineer, Electronics for CW systems and OEM lasers is responsible for the design and development of all aspects of electronics (hardware and software), power systems, interfacing and control, and safety subsystems. Scope of Engineering involvement will include full product lifecycle from architecture definition, specification, design and development, prototyping, verification/validation (including reliability proving) at both subsystem and integrated system level. The Electronics team also support supplier selection / CM outsourcing and transfer to manufacture of all electronic sub-systems. The role is likely to be 60% hands on, 40% functional leadership.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

" Liaison with product marketing in the early definition stages of design and to interact with customers as required.
" Development of electronics hardware including pump driver, interface circuitry and power supplies for systems and OEM products.
" Derivation of specifications for software, hardware and power supplies for either internal our out-source development.
" Verification and validation of new designs to demonstrate world class reliability and to ensure compliance to appropriate standards, e.g. EMC, electrical safety, CE certification.
" Derivation of next generation system architectures to maintain a leading edge in system design and costs competitiveness.
" Front-line technical leadership and direction of the Electronics Group, including personal development and performance appraisals for the electronics and systems engineering team (currently 6 engineers).

Required Experience:
Essential:
" Minimum 5 years experience in leadership of a design/development team in electronics and control systems for advanced industrial electronic products, ideally in a laser-related industry
" Proven track record of bringing complex electronics system development projects to successful fruition to time, cost and quality deadlines.
" Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills with hands-on experience within a cross-disciplinary electronics team.
" Experience of working ideally with Lasers or Systems, within a component and/or integrator environment, and of Industrial / Safety standards for same.
" Experienced in hardware, power supply, software and firmware specification and design leadership.
" Proven track record in developing and coaching engineers across multiple disciplines within a development environment.
" Experience in managing outsourced packages of work with external partners/vendors.
" Good I.T. skills.

Preferable:
" Familiarity with Fiber Optic or Laser based products is highly desirable.
" Familiar with both European and North American regulatory approval processes.
" Demonstrable design compliance with appropriate safety and EMC standards.
